Έρευνα στο τμήμα ΙατρικήςThe Faculty of Medicine conducts basic and clinical cutting-edge research. Its high level is asserted by the numerous publications in high impact scientific journals, by the faculty members' citations as well as by the established collaborations between our faculty members and scientists of national and international recognized research centers and Institutes. The number of publications follows an "S" –shaped curve and it is obvious that the Faculty has reached a stage of maturity regarding the number of articles being published. The accelerating citations' number signifies the improvement of the publications' average quality and impact. From 2005 to mid 2013, the faculty of Medicine recorded a total of 3,418 international publications with 38,908 citations and with an 83 h Hirsch index.

Our Faculty's research publications represent 60% of the total of our University's publications and more than 45% of its total citations. All things considered, the Faculty has secured a strong presence in high-impact scientific publishing. More specifically, thirteen (13) publications from the University of Ioannina affiliated faculty have received more than 300 citations and seventy-seven (77) publications have received more than 100 citations.
