Dean’s Greeting

The School of Health Sciences of the University of Ioannina was founded on June 5th 2013, pursuant to the Presidential Decree 105/2013, Article 4, in the context of the “ATHENA” plan, concerning the restructuring of the Greek Higher Education Institutions. It includes the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Biological Applications & Technologies.

The purpose of the School is versatile, aiming mainly at the promotion of health and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of both human and other living beings’ diseases. Of primary significance is the upgrading of the quality of education provided at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, resulting in the excellent training of young scientists. At the same time, particular care is taken for the advancement of innovative frontier research in various disciplines, as well as for our School’s contribution to society and the country in general.

The present Deanship is the first one of the School, and has been assigned to operate during a most difficult era for the public University. This constitutes a great challenge for the consolidation and the constant improvement of our School through the continuous curriculum reform and the development of national and international partnerships on promoting research, ensuring considerable financial resources and attracting young scientists.

I wish to assure you that on our part, as Dean of the School, we intend to use our best endeavours to support, improve and resolve all the main issues at stake both of our School and the University as a whole. The Deanship is to work with respect towards all its members, under full transparency, professional merit and equity, in accordance with the current legislation.

The Dean of School
MARGARET TZAPHLIDOU
Professor of Medical Physics
